CLIP is a portable e-motor that turns any bicycle into an e-bike
In developing the Clip mechanical design, we faced and overcame three significant challenges:
Engineering a clamping mechanism that securely attaches to a diverse range of bicycle forks, measuring 0.5”-2” in diameter, without requiring any adjustments by the user.
Refining the design of the friction-drive motor to ensure consistent and stable contact with the front tire, eliminating sway.
Ensuring the design is lightweight and user-friendly, making it easily portable.
Numerous iterations were needed to experiment with different combinations of materials, wheel profiles, and the necessary normal force to arrive at a reliable and efficient solution.
